  • Wynton with B.B. King and Eric Clapton to Blow the Blues away

    B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles, and Willie Nelson are among the artists who will play the Blowin’ the Blues Away, a concert to benefit Jazz at Lincoln Center.
    To be held tomorrow, June 2, at New York’s famed Apollo Theater, the event will celebrate the U.S. Congress-declared Year of the Blues and will articulate the development of the blues in jazz through narrative and song.

  • European tour dates for the Wynton Marsalis Septet

  • Wynton and Ellis Marsalis play the music of James Black

  • Wynton to play with the Lincoln Center Latin-Jazz Orchestra

    Wynton will be guest soloist for the Lincoln Center debut of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s own Latin jazz big band. The dynamic Arturo O’Farrill, son of the late composer/bandleader Chico O’Farrill, leads this all-star ensemble. On May 9 & 10, 2003, 8 pm at Alice Tully Hall, New York.

  • Wynton and LCJO play: Evolution of the Groove

    Legendary drummer Joe Chambers performs and composes a new commission for the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra that illustrates the dynamic role of the drum in jazz. Augmented by a script written by celebrated writer Stanley Crouch, LCJO drummer Herlin Riley also leads the orchestra in a historical journey of the groove, from the talking drum of Africa to its place as the heartbeat of modern jazz.

  • The Marsalis Family band hits the road

    Inspired by a New Orleans concert in August 2001 celebrating patriarch Ellis Marsalis’ retirement from teaching at the University of New Orleans, a tour, a PBS special, a recording and a DVD are now in the works. The Marsalis family tour (check dates), kicks off on February 23.
    It features Ellis Marsalis on piano, with sons Branford on saxophones, Wynton on trumpet, Delfeayo on trombone and Jason on drums, and the only non-family member, Reginald Veal on bass.
