Griot New York made its world premiere in 1991 at the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. A collaboration by three visionaries, concept and choreography by Garth Fagan, music composed and arranged by Wynton Marsalis, and set design by sculptor Martin Puryear, Griot New York explores contemporary urban life, human anguish and exaltation, and humankind’s triumph over adversity.

Francesco Cafiso is from Sicily and is a wonderful jazz musician.
Wynton listened to him for the first time playing before his concert with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in Pescara, last year, on July 17 2002, and was astonished by the performance of that young italian boy. -
