Significant music: Marsalis places excellent ritual over novelty
Wynton Marsalis has been known to spark controversy as a result of his rigid views on jazz pedigree, but he backs them up with passion, logic, and raw skill with his horn. He’s easily the most important voice of the trumpet in decades, and for the past 20 years, he’s been the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center. This Tuesday, September 11, he brings the fruits of that project to one of the Paramount Theater’s most impressive shows of the season.

The soulful concert, performed by the legendary singer-songwriter-musician Willie Nelson and the Wynton Marsalis Quintet in January 2007, featured songs by well-known American composers such as Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, and Merle Travis, as well as songs written by less prominent blues men Harry Warren, Spencer Williams, and Jimmy Reed. -
New recording session for Wynton and his Quintet
On August 24-25, Wynton will be in studio in New York City, for two recording session with his Quintet. They will record new tracks for the next album.

Wynton performed at the first Furman Jazz Fling
On Friday night, August 17, the rain could not stop the first annual Furman Jazz Fling to benefit Jazz at Lincoln Center, from going full swing! A who’s who on the Hampton’s scene joined hosts Victoria Moran Furman and Jay Furman (Jazz at Lincoln Center Board member) at their stunning Southampton home for a joyful event complete with a performance by Wynton.

The Quintet line-up will be: Wynton Marsalis (Trumpet), Dan Nimmer (Piano), Carlos Henriquez (Bass), Walter Blanding Jr. (Sax), Ali Jackson (Drums). They will play four shows. At 7.00 pm and 9.30 pm for the two nights. -
