  • Wynton playing the music of Gil Evans at JALC

    On October 25, 26, 27 , at Rose Theater, the JLCO with Wynton Marsalis eases into the lilting, richly textured and deeply romantic world of one of jazz’s pre-eminent arrangers and the master of impressionistic sound, the legendary Gil Evans with selections from Sketches of Spain, Porgy and Bess and more.
    Wynton will rehearse the music for the concert with the JLCO on October 23, 24, at Rose Theater.

    On Friday night, August 17, the rain could not stop the first annual Furman Jazz Fling to benefit Jazz at Lincoln Center, from going full swing! A who’s who on the Hampton’s scene joined hosts Victoria Moran Furman and Jay Furman (Jazz at Lincoln Center Board member) at their stunning Southampton home for a joyful event complete with a performance by Wynton.

    When Wynton Marsalis unveiled his sanctified long-form composition “In This House, on This Morning” 15 years ago, it marked a breakthrough for him as well as for Jazz at Lincoln Center, where he had recently begun his tenure as artistic director. So it might be tempting to view the piece’s revival this week as an act of misty nostalgia, the equivalent of dusting off a scrapbook, or a treasured hymnal, and gingerly turning pages.

    On May 10, Wynton received an honorary doctorate during 2007 New York University commencement ceremonies in Washington Square Park, in New York City. The event was NYU’s 175th commencement celebrating the graduation of approximately 15,000 members of the Class of 2007.

  • Wynton to perform at JALC Spring Gala 2007

    On Monday, May 14, 2007, Jazz at Lincoln Center will present its 6th Annual Spring Gala, themed Spring Swing!
    The evening will include a a 7:30pm benefit concert in Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The concert will be followed by a gala dinner dance at 9pm.

  • Wynton to be featured at NYU’s 175th Commencement

    Wynton is going to be featured at New York University’s 175th Commencement Exercises, which will be held Thursday, May 10th, in Washington Square Park.
    He will offer the “Response on Behalf of the Honorary Degree Recipients,” an NYU tradition. Wynton will receive a Doctor of Fine Arts degree, honoris causa, at the ceremony.
