Wynton about the “Chops” documentary at Tribeca Film Festival
On April 26, Wynton participated in a Q&A session at Tribeca Film Festival, with the filmmakers of *Chops*, a documentary film directed by *Bruce Broder* that follows a Florida high school jazz band’s journey to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival.

Jazz at Lincoln Center Announces winners of Essentially Ellington Competition 2006
Essentially Ellington culminated in tonight’s concert at Avery Fisher Hall, at which each of the three top-placing bands performed two Ellington compositions, one alone and one with Jon Faddis, as guest soloist. Conductor, composer and educator, Mr. Faddis is the Director of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble and studied under the great Dizzy Gillespie. The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra then performed a set of Ellington compositions that Jazz at Lincoln Center will distribute to high schools for Essentially Ellington 2007. Keep reading »

Wynton Marsalis didn’t mind losing sleep for some high school band members. While on tour in a town “somewhere in Washington state” a few months ago, “I was doing a gig and it was midnight,” Marsalis told The Associated Press. “This girl, about 14, came to see me and I said, ‘What are you doing out so late?’”

Wynton and the winners of Essentially Ellington Competition 2003
Congratulations to Seattle’s Garfield High School Jazz Ensemble, which took top honors Monday night in the finale of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s eighth annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition. The New World School of the Arts High School Jazz Ensemble from Miami finished second. Third place went to the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts Orchestra.

A rainy afternoon in Arlington Heights, IL. – just a mile up the street from the Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame – the photographer and his assistant convert one corner of Wynton’s hotel suite into a studio while he fiddles with his trumpet.
