    Jazz at Lincoln Center proudly announces the 15 finalist bands that will compete in the 21st Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival – one of the most innovative jazz education events in the world – at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s home, Frederick P.   • Drummer Yacub Addy dies

    Ghanaian drummer Yacub Addy, a master of African music who founded Odadaa!, worked with jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and became a National Heritage Fellow in 2010, died of a heart attack on Dec. 18 at the age of 83. He lived in Latham.

Showcasing the evolution of Soul Train’s impact on musical history from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today, the new Soul Train Awards are about the marriage of music and dance.
    Fellow nominees in the Best Traditional Jazz Performance category include: Gregory Porter “Hey Laura”; Audra McDonald “What a Little Moonlight Can Do”; Kenny Garret “Pushing the World Away”; and Monty Alexander “Concierto de Aranjuez”.
