Wynton will present award to Agnes Varis
On May 17, Wynton is presenting award to Agnes Varis for the 6th annual Jazz Foundation Gala at Apollo Theatre.
The benefit concert will raise money to assist the countless elder jazz and blues artists in crisis across America, who have spent their lives making ours rich with their music. In addition, to save hundreds of displaced New Orleans musicians who are still suffering without work, without homes and facing the threat of losing their very way of life, as well as the city that grew the garden of jazz.
This year’s concert (live webcast on AllAboutJazz.com) features a musical history from the beginning, up to the present including African drums, Gospel, Duke Ellington Big Band , Early blues, the first jazz sounds, New Orleans piano by the master himself; Henry Butler and a surprise artist who will battle on stage with 2 pianos.
Other award honorees include: Dave Brubeck, Jarrett Lilien & E“TRADE FINANCIAL, Englewood Hospital & Medical Center.
