  • Wynton’s work with the Atlanta Symphony postponed

    Wynton has postponed the world premiere of his “American Symphony,” his first all-orchestral work. It was originally scheduled to be performed July 19 by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and conductor Robert Spano at the National Black Arts Festival, with repeat performances Nov. 6 and 7 during the ASO’s 2008-09 main season. The premiere is to be rescheduled (dates to be announced).

  • Winners of Essentially Ellington 2008 played with Wynton and JLCO

    Two high school jazz bands from Seattle took home the top honors in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s 13th Annual Essentially Ellington competition that culminated with a Saturday night concert where they performed with Wynton Marsalis as guest soloist.

  • Wynton to play with Patti Austin at JALC’s Spring Gala 2008

    On May 28, 2008, at 7:30 PM, Jazz at Lincoln Center’s annual Spring Gala concert, themed “Spring Swing,” features the soulful vocals of jazz chanteuse Patti Austin, with special guest Wynton Marsalis, performing selections from her 2008 GRAMMY - award winning album Avant Gershwin. A festive dinner (9:30 PM) will be held throughout Frederick P. Rose Hall venues following the concert. Proceeds from the evening will benefit Jazz at Lincoln Center’.   • Wynton to play in Marciac 2008 with his Septet, Quintet and Richard Galliano

    On August 8 and 13, 2008, Wynton will play at Marciac Jazz Festival with his Septet and Quintet. The first concert will be performed at the Chapiteau by his Septet: Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts (to be confirmed), Reginald Veal, Herlin Riley, Wess Anderson, Wycliffe Gordon and Victor Goines.

  • Wynton and JLCO touring Canada on June 2008

    Next June, Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) will tour Canada for some concerts in Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Vitoria.

  • Tap Meets Flamenco at JALC

    On April 24, 25 & 26, 2008, at Rose Theater, in a special concert event called Tap Meets Flamenco, Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez performs his work De Cadi a New Orleans with his flamenco ensemble and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra also performs selections from The Vitoria Suite, which the city of Vitoria, Spain commissioned Wynton Marsalis to write and “Evolution of the Groove” featuring drummer Herlin Riley.

  • Finalists announced for 13th Annual Essentially Ellington 2008

    Jazz at Lincoln Center announced the 15 finalist bands for its prestigious 13th Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival. The bands will compete and participate in workshops, jam sessions and more, during the three-day competition and festival in New York City. The top-placing bands perform with Wynton Marsalis, as guest soloist, followed by a performance by the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra – all of whom serve as mentors for the finalist bands throughout the weekend. The festival culminates with an awards ceremony honoring outstanding soloists, sections and the top three bands.
