Last night, the Wynton Marsalis Septet, played in Marciac for the 30th Anniversary concert. Wynton paid a tribute to Marciac introducing the concert with these words: “No France…no New Orleans, no Jazz”.

For two days, on August 5 and 6, Wynton rehearsed with his septet for the upcoming concert in Marciac. They played songs from the Marciac Suite: Loose Duck, Jean-Louis Is Everywhere, Mademoiselle D’Gascony, Armagnac Dreams, Marciac Fun, Marciac Moon, Guy Lafitte, B Is For Boussaget.

On August 3, 2007, at 4 pm, the first masterclass was for the kids at Marciac’s College, while the second one, today, was for kids that still do not play an instrument at Marciac’s school. -

Last night, the Wynton Marsalis Quintet performed in Marciac. They played songs from a new poem written by Wynton, and at the end of the concert people tributed a standing ovation to the band and to Jared Grimes. The band also played three encores: Moscow Blues, The Magic Hour and Sadness (by Ornette Coleman).

Yesterday afternoon, at 4:40 PM Wynton was on stage at Parc Floral de Paris with his Quintet, to play at Paris Jazz Festival 2007. They played selections from “The Magic Hour” and from the latest album: “From the Plantation to the Penitentiary”.

Wynton received an honorary doctorate at NYU Commencement
On May 10, Wynton received an honorary doctorate during 2007 New York University commencement ceremonies in Washington Square Park, in New York City. The event was NYU’s 175th commencement celebrating the graduation of approximately 15,000 members of the Class of 2007.
