In 1997 Wynton Marsalis was honored with the “Algur H. Meadows Award for Excellence in the Arts” during an 70 minute long ceremony. The Algur H. Meadows Award for Excellence in the Arts was established by the Meadows School of the Arts in November 1978 to recognize the highest level of international achievement in the creative and performing arts.
