The music heard this evening will feature arrangements and original compositions from some of the most important small group jazz that developed in the wake of the bebop movement in the middle of forties.
It is from the middle of late fifties, most of it originally performed under the leadership of Miles Davis (1926-1991) and featuring John Coltrane (1926-1967) in a quintet, then Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley (1928-1975) in a sextet. The other selections are from quintet recording dates led by Adderley and featuring Miles Davis or from a co-lead session featuring Adderley and John Coltrane.
