    New York, NY – December 16, 2014 – The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis perform the music of four pioneering giants of jazz – Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, John Coltrane, and Charles Mingus – in Duke, Dizzy, ‘Trane & Mingus:  Jazz Titans at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater on January 29, 30 and 31 at 8pm.  Jazz at Lincoln Center is located at Broadway at 60th Street in New York, New York.

    Six compositions by Charles Mingus give the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra something different to work with. The swing is still there, but each piece echoes with the emotional strength and ferocity that its composer espoused through his ensembles. As with the original, you get a powerful bass line that leads the way, and you get thrilling soloists who provide impeccable examples of musicianship. What’s missing is the passion that Mingus took with him everywhere he went.

  • Wynton plays the music of Charles Mingus

    On October 18, 2005, Palmetto Records will release: Don’t Be Afraid…the music of Charles Mingus, a new album by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
    The CD features six compositions by the legendary bassist and composer.
    LCJO trombonist, Ron Westray, arranged the music for the recording, which was produced by Delfeayo Marsalis.
