  • Wynton to play a benefit concert for Young Scholars Charter School

    On October 4, 2007, the Young Scholars Charter School (YSCS) will host a benefit concert featuring Wynton Marsalis.
    The concert will be held at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts (260 South Broad Street Avenue of the Arts, Philadelphia PA) and all proceeds will benefit the school.

  • Wynton to play and record with Marcus Roberts

    On October 6, Wynton will be with his great friend and former pianist Marcus Robert, the J Master, and his trio, for a recording session. Wynton is to perform on 3 numbers. No major record label set to release. (more info to come…)
    Marcus Roberts trio members include Roland Guerin (bass) and Jason Marsalis (drums).

  • Wynton performed at the first Furman Jazz Fling

    On Friday night, August 17, the rain could not stop the first annual Furman Jazz Fling to benefit Jazz at Lincoln Center, from going full swing! A who’s who on the Hampton’s scene joined hosts Victoria Moran Furman and Jay Furman (Jazz at Lincoln Center Board member) at their stunning Southampton home for a joyful event complete with a performance by Wynton.

  • Wynton to play with Dr. John at “Jazz at Lincoln Center”

    On April 10, the Wynton Marsalis Quintet will play at Frederick P. Rose Hall with Dr. John and The Lower 911 for the “Now that’s HIP Concert” sponsored by HIP Health Plan of New York.
    In conjunction with the concert, HIP Health Plan will donate $100,000 to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Fund administered by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, established in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

  • Wynton and The Lancaster Symphony Orchestra to perform

    On March 15, Wynton is coming to Lancaster County to join the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in concert at the American Music Theatre at 7:30 p.m
    The concert will benefit St. James Episcopal Church’s Anchorage breakfast program for the poor and homeless in Downtown Lancaster and the Orchestra’s Sound Discovery educational programs.

  • Higher Ground benefit CD is in stores now

    Today, Blue Note Records released Higher Ground, a CD that documents Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert, a landmark evening of musical offering that was mounted by Wynton on September 17, less than three weeks after Hurricane Katrina imparted its devastation upon the Gulf Coast.

  • Combining Forces to Revive the Soul of New Orleans

    Music is the soul of society, the heart of culture. So, at least, it was variously pronounced by the likes of Itzhak Perlman and Beverly Sills in the course of an evening devoted to bringing it back. “Bringing Back the Music” was the title of the New York Philharmonic’s joint benefit concert with and for the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday night at Avery Fisher Hall. New Orleans, of course, was the intended destination of this particular return: orchestral music in other American cities will have to continue to fend for itself.
