  • Wynton plays the music of Charles Mingus

    On October 18, 2005, Palmetto Records will release: Don’t Be Afraid…the music of Charles Mingus, a new album by the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis.
    The CD features six compositions by the legendary bassist and composer.
    LCJO trombonist, Ron Westray, arranged the music for the recording, which was produced by Delfeayo Marsalis.

  • Wynton played at the presentation of the new Apple iPod video

    Last night, Wynton and his quartet played at the California Theater in San Jose (California) for the presentation of the new Apple iPod Video.
    Towards the end of the press conference, the Apple CEO, Steve Jobs introduced an encore and Wynton played the track The Magic Hour (from the Magic Hour album…)

  • Wynton played at August Wilson funeral

    Last Saturday, October 8, Wynton played at August Wilson funeral in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
    During the funeral service, Wynton played “Danny Boy”, moving the audience to tears.
    Minutes later, he broke into a jazzier, upbeat number, bringing people to their feet to dance, clap and tap their shoes to the beat.

    Last Sunday October 2, we were in London to meet Wynton and listen to his composition: All Rise. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Kurt Masur.

  • Wynton Marsalis to speak at National Press Club luncheon 2005

    Wynton will speak October 20 at a National Press Club luncheon.
    The NPC luncheon will begin promptly at 12:30 p.m., with Wynton’s address starting just after 1 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session.
    Advance reservations should be made by telephoning 202-662-7501. Cost of the luncheon is $16 for NPC members, $28 for their guests and $35 for general admission.

  • Wynton and Dr. Ken Mask look to build libraries in the homes of hurricane Katrina victims

    After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans, Dr. Ken Mask who runs the non-profit “Books To You” in New Orleans, turned to close friends and supporters, one being Wynton Marsalis to help restore the precious books that washed away in the Hurricane’s flood. Dr. Mask would like to do more than just restore books.
