An evenings of tribute readings by Renata Adler, Paul Devlin, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Wynton Marsalis and Ayana Mathis to celebrate the centennial of Albert Murray – “an authority on soul from the days of old” (Duke Ellington) — upon publication of his Collected Essays and Memoirs by the Library of America.
Wynton Marsalis pays tribute to his friend and mentor Albert Murray with a reading from Murray’s The Hero and the Blues and a special musical improvisation at the 15:25 mark.
