In Performance at the White House: Today we bring you a very special hour of PT: a presentation of our 10th Anniversary Gala, billed as “America in Concert,” held in the East Room of the White House, hosted by the President and Mrs. Clinton. We’ll hear flutist James Galway and pianist Christopher O’Riley play “Il Pastore Svizzero” (“The Swiss Shepherd”) by Francesco Morlacchi, as well as “The Flight of the Bumblebee” by Nikola Rimsky- Korsakov; 19-year old violist Nokuthula Ngwenyama (nok-oo-TOO-lah ehn-gwen- YAH-mah) performs the “Praeludium & Allegro” by Fritz Kreisler, with the assistance of pianist Reiko Uchida; pianist Murray Perahia plays the Impromptu in A-flat, Op. 90, No. 4, by Schubert; trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and pianist Marcus Roberts play the “Black and Tan Fantasy” by Duke Ellington, and mezzo- soprano Denyce Graves, with pianist Pierre Vallet, performs a rollicking new arrangement of the spiritual “Git on Board” (from her forthcoming NPR Classics CD “Angels Watching Over Me”). We’ll also hear closing remarks by the President. (NPR)
