Queens College took the Armstrong House in 1987 but it took a few years to get the archival material over to Queens College. In the summer of 1991, they hired Michael Cogswell as Archivist and Michael began going through the 76 boxes of material to create an exhibit and let the public know what was in there. On September 5, the College held a dedication ceremony and invited all the trumpeters: Donald Byrd, Wynton Marsalis, Nabaté Isles, Jimmy Owens, Doc Cheatham, Jon Faddis and Dizzy Gillespie!
They played the trumpets that belonged to Louis! There were many speakers, including Queens College President Shirley Strum Kenny and Wynton himself. Arvell Shaw was also there, Honi Coles, Phoebe Jacobs, Phil Schaap, Selma Heraldo, a who’s who.
