Epitaph, a long-lost two-hour composition by the jazz giant, has been resurrected by Concordia University professor and bandleader Andrew Homzy.
An orchestra of 33 musicians, including John Handy and Wynton Marsalis, will give the piece its world premiere Saturday at Lincoln Centre in New York.
The concert Saturday brings together some of jazz’s heavy hitters, including saxist Handy, trumpeters Marsalis, Snooky Young and Joe Wilder, trombonists Urbie Green and Paul Saulise, saxists Jerome Richardson, George Adams and Nick Brig-nola, and pianists Sir Roland Hanna and John Hicks.
