The Jazz at Lincoln Center Awards Gala is a yearly event in which individuals who have been very important to the jazz community are honored, whether as artists or those whose work has helped the art to sustain, expand, document, or present itself. The honorees this evening are the grand pianist Oscar Peterson and the recording executive Ahmet Ertegun, both of whom have made their contributions to the art of jazz over a number of decades.a
