A pianist of the first order with a delicate approach, eldest brother of the clan that includes the drummer Elvin and the trumpeter and arranger Thad, Hank Jones is often left off favorites lists in jazz, probably because he hasn’t been considered a major composer. This showcase will do him right, swaddling Mr. Jones in a 40-piece orchestra as well as setting him up with his quartet, which Wynton Marsalis will join as a fifth cog.
