    NEA Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony & Concert on January 11, 2011
    The Awards Ceremony & Concert will feature the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in a program dedicated to the honorees’ works; honorees Mr. Liebman, Mr. Laws, and the Marsalis Family will perform. The evening also will feature a special performance by Roberta Gambarini and others in honor of the Jazz Masters who have passed away in the last year: Hank Jones, Abbey Lincoln, James Moody, and Dr. Billy Taylor.

    On the surface, country music legend Willie Nelson and jazz trumpet icon Wynton Marsalis might seem like an unlikely combination. But when the two came together in January 2007 to perform live at Lincoln Center, they discovered a connection far beyond their admiration for each other’s music. Finding common ground and a mutual love of jazz standards and the blues, they later turned the performances into the newly released album Two Men with the Blues.     The soulful concert, performed by the legendary singer-songwriter-musician Willie Nelson and the Wynton Marsalis Quintet in January 2007, featured songs by well-known American composers such as Hoagy Carmichael, Duke Ellington, and Merle Travis, as well as songs written by less prominent blues men Harry Warren, Spencer Williams, and Jimmy Reed.

  • Wynton’s concert with Willie Nelson on XM Radio

    Jazz at Lincoln Center and XM Radio announced, that “Willie Sings the Blues, ” a concert performed by the legendary singer-songwriter-musician Willie Nelson and the Wynton Marsalis Quintet in January 2007 will be broadcast exclusively on XM Friday, April 6th at 7p.m. ET in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month.
    The concert will be broadcast simultaneously on XM’s traditional country channel, “Willie’s Place” (XM 13), and XM’s traditional jazz channel, “Real Jazz” (XM 70), with additional encores airing throughout the weekend.

  • Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio remembers Ed Bradley

    The nationally syndicated Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio will offer a one-hour tribute program in remembrance of its longtime host, the late Ed Bradley. For radio stations, “Jazz at Lincoln Center, Remembering Ed Bradley” will be available on the Content Depot after December 26th and will uplink on Thursday, December 28th at 5:00pm ET.
    The program will be heard by listeners of more than 240 stations across the country between December 28th and January 11th.
