Faubourg Tremé: The Untold Story of Black New Orleans
Wynton was executive producer on this film (it’s a documentary by Dawn Logsdon and Lolis Eric Elie) which was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and one other film festival in San Francisco this spring.

Kings of the Crescent City at JALC
On January 11 & 12, 2008, 8pm, at Rose Theater - Jazz at Lincoln Center, “Kings of the Crescent City” will celebrate the music of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe “King” Oliver and Sidney Bechet. Led by Victor Goines (clarinet, soprano saxophone), the ensemble comprised predominately of New Orleans natives will consist of Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews (trumpet), Marcus Printup (trumpet), Wycliffe Gordon (trombone), Don Vappie (guitar), Jonathan Batiste (piano), Reginald Veal (bass) and Herlin Riley (drums). Kings of the Crescent City is one of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Nesuhi Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame concert series. The show will be hosted and narrated by actor Wendell Pierce.

In conjunction with the concert, HIP Health Plan will donate $100,000 to Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Fund administered by the Baton Rouge Area Foundation, established in 2005 in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. -

Like Howard Beale in Network, Wynton Marsalis is mad as hell and he’s not gonna take it anymore. Of course, the 45-year-old trumpeter-bandleader and celebrated jazz ambassador has always been riled and outraged, ever since he was an audacious, outspoken kid back in New Orleans. And over the course of the past 20 years, he has always spoken his mind in interviews or in casual conversation. Like his equally unguarded brother Branford, you know where Wynton stands. He pulls no punches, never attempts to obfuscate. Like him or not, he’s painfully direct, unwavering in his convictions.
