    The Washington Performing Arts Society, the Black Student Fund and Friedman, Billings & Ramsey present the Ambassador of Jazz, Wynton Marsalis, and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, featuring The Boys Choir of Harlem and guest vocalists, in the world premiere performance of the Suite for Human Nature, a heartwarming musical holiday fable, at Washington’s Lincoln Theatre.

  • Wynton Marsalis Pens Music for Rattner’s Eatonville

    Amas Musical Theatre, whose previous productions include Zanna, Don’t! and Little Ham, will offer a new play with music this fall.
    The 35-year-old multi-ethnic, not-for-profit theatre company will present — from Oct. 21-Nov. 23 — Bonnie Lee Rattner’s Eatonville, which boasts an original jazz score and songs by Wynton Marsalis. Based on Zora Neale Hurston’s novel “Their Eyes Were Watching God,” Eatonville is set in 1920’s Eatonville, Florida, one of the first all-black incorporated American towns.

  • A Conversation with Wynton Marsalis

    At 35, Wynton Marsalis already has more accomplishments behind him than most musicians do in a lifetime. Since he first began recording with his own band in 1982, the New Orleans-born trumpeter has put out some 30 albums, won Grammy Awards in both the classical and jazz fields, [and has] performed in countless clubs and concert halls around the world. A passionate teacher as well as a performer, Marsalis has preached his musical message to thousands of young people via master classes, seminars, radio and TV shows. As Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center since 1987, he has helped bring jazz into the cultural mainstream and burnished its respectability as America’s only native art form.   Keep reading »
