Wynton playing All Rise with Boston Symphony Orchestra
Conductor Kurt Masur will lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the Boston premiere of Wynton Marsalis’ All Rise, December 3, 4, 6 at Symphony Hall, featuring Wynton on trumpet, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, soprano NaGuanda Miller, mezzo-soprano Cynthia Renee Hardy, tenor Brian Robinson, baritone Robert Honeysucker, and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver, conductor.
In addition to the concerts themselves, the BSO is planning a host of activities around All Rise to get younger music lovers in and around Boston involved in the work. Building on the success of last season’s Online Conservatory – the BSO’s new interactive multimedia addition to its website www.bso.org – the Boston Symphony will once again offer this unique educational initiative in conjunction with the performances of All Rise.
The Online Conservatory features a video interview to Wynton, audio clips from the work and other interactive elements designed to not only educate visitors about the music and musicians but also to give them a look inside the work – the influences behind it, how it was created, and how it’s performed.
The site also offers coaching to visitors who might like to try their hand at writing their own blues compositions. A specially designed timeline, focusing on jazz and blues greats from history to present day, will give online visitors a wide-ranging overview of these two classic American genres of music.
