  1. Hi S! How’ve you been? Quiet around here.
You’d really enjoy Marcus Roberts’ interpretation of Rhapsody in Blue for jazz ensemble and orchestra. His recording is entitled Portraits in Blue (Sony SK 68488).
Marcus expands the Rhapsody with cadenzas, improvisations based on ragtime and blues, and new ideas based on the original scoring, which flowed seamlessly into the strings.
The Bermel work was thick with modern harmonies, themes and riffs, much drama and some humor. J@LC Orchestra combined with the American Composers Orchestra produced strikingly rich, full, contemporary sounds.
    Great musicians…
    Have a Happy Thanksgiving! Glo.

  3. Lots of great music! Marcus Roberts was terrific! Derek Bermel’s imagery of migration covered a vast musical landscape and Patti Austin’s vocals were sublime. Paquita d’Rivera’s Allen concert was wonderful as well. The halls were packed, so nice to see! Glo.
