Wynton Marsalis to receive the congressional Horizon Award
Wynton Marsalis will be presented with the Congressional “Horizon Award” by Hon. Tom Daschle, Hon. Trent Lott, Hon. Dennis Hastert and Hon. Richard Gephardt at a benefit gala on Tuesday, June 25.
The Horizon Award is presented to individuals from the private sector who have contributed to expanding opportunities for all American through their own personal contributions, and who have set examples for young people through their success in life.
The gala will be held at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC at 7pm. Other recipients include Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jerry Blavat. In other news, Marsalis’ ‘All Rise’ is scheduled for release August 27, on Sony Classical. ‘All Rise,’ was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic’s millennium initiative as a collaborative project between the organization and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Marsalis’ West Coast debut of ‘All Rise’ took place September 13, in Los Angeles.
