Wynton Marsalis Septet live at Jazz in Marciac 2014

Wynton Marsalis and six of his most frequent collaborators will come together in a program featuring some of Marsalis’ greatest compositions. The evening’s repertoire will be selected from both The Marciac Suite and Lighthouse/Lightning Rod.

In 1999, Marsalis brought his septet and 90 minutes of new music to the Jazz in Marciac Festival. The music is a 13-part tribute to the town and its people so beloved by the composer. 15 years later, the songs that comprise The Marciac Suite are still a staple of the band’s repertoire and continue to be played around the world.

The music to Lighthouse/Lightning Rod was composed in association with Garth Fagan Dance as a celebration of the anniversary of the legendary 1991 Fagan/Marsalis collaboration, Griot New York. Premiered at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in 2012, Lighthouse/Lightning Rod has not been performed since and will be making its European debut.

  2. I was in Marciac last weekend, seeing the live stream last night made me wonder what on earth am I doing back in UK? Thanks to all on stage for generously sharing their outstanding talents with so many people unable to be in the Chapiteau in Marciac .
