  6. It’s amazing to see these musicians preparing for the shows that happened. The late set each night had serious ambiance. The club was packed, with it’s gold rimmed railings. There was a perfect walk way through the crowd on the last song that the guys performed. I thought for a minute that Mr. Marsalis and his guest saxophone Guys from the Isles were going to promenade 2nd Line style around the rims. Sweet styles when the swing builds, escalating to the cresendos of the break out solo voices that’s when everyone plays in their ways. What a sound.

Luigi Beverelli on Aug 16th, 2006 at 11:56am

  13. Great observation Andrew, thanks! I know I kept getting an error saying, the clip wasn’t a ‘movie’ file.

    CJD on Aug 16th, 2006 at 11:47am

  14. Make sure the file extension is .m4v, when i downloaded them they came down as .mov and would not play. After renaming they play fine.

  16. Luigi, finally got to see them all.
Wonderful!!…and interesting… you can have exact measure of how much work, technic and professional level to get a good job….
…..whenever listening them in recorded or in concert the sound flows so well and easy that anybody can think it would be something easy for anybody (lets take some lessons and get in to it)…..but when watching this rehearsal videos you got an exact idea of how much difficult it is and even more to make it look it as if it were easy (that’s elegantlly playing, hidding efforts)…….to me it seems almost a miracle to get the beautiful results audience finally enjoys.
BTW, I’ve never seen Wynton playing Sophie Rosa-Rosalee…I LOVE it….wonderful, slow, tender waltz inviting to calm….well, also to dance…don’t you feel your feet start moving when listening?
Concerning Nightlife-Highlife, I’ve found it in Citi Movement…. its already recorded, long time ago but it is on C.M..
Also, have a question (may be for kind Mr.Know it All?)…Could it have been that I’ve listened Wynton playing and extended version ofSparks?? …right?…is it written??…..To me it sounded like Sparks…. but he gave a different and criptic title I couldn’t hear well…..Any info Mr. R.J.…I LOVE how it sounded, was great.

Thanks to the musicians for their job, and to Luigi for the videos.

  22. At the end of the Free To Be clip, I overheard Wynton tell the rest of the band (except Warmdaddy) that Nightlife-Highlife was something they have never played.

I wonder how long it’s been since Wynton blew the dust off of that tune!

You really have to be an accomplished musician to play with Wynton; you just never know what charts he’s going to pull out.

Again, thank you Luigi for a look behind the scenes in Wynton’s gig preparation.

    CJD on Aug 12th, 2006 at 1:29am

  23. The clips are priceless! Thank you so much Luigi for giving us a rare glimpse of Wynton and his rehersals. He is such the consummate performer- these clips are a treat!

  26. Thank you for the correction CJD ;)

Luigi Beverelli on Aug 11th, 2006 at 11:29am

  27. The waltz clip is “Sophie Rose-Rosalee”, the Citi Movement tune was, “Nightlife-Highlife (Yas, Yas)”.

Thanks for the clips Luigi! This is pretty rare footage of how Wynton conducts rehearsal and exactly how he wants his music to sound.

    CJD on Aug 11th, 2006 at 11:14am

  28. The final rehearsal clip was actually a song from Citi Movement. I’ve never heard that played live. It’s fun to see him playing piano; that really let’s you know how well he knows the music.

    CJD on Aug 11th, 2006 at 12:56am

  29. I am just continuously impressed by the intersection of art and technology. So many possibilities these days to make your music heard and to get it out to as many people as possible in NON PIRATED ways. I appeciate Wynton’s cutting edge sensibility as far as artistic dissemination is concerned and think that this is one very good practical example of the impact he has on the music industry and his leadership role. Leaving a legacy in music can mean so much more than instrumental innovation. I see Wynton as pushing the parameters of the music world all the time because it’s the totality of his genuis that most impresses me…Hero Worshipper that I am.
