Journey through Jazz: Part III - Featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis in the Appel Room

Wynton Marsalis’s interactive and educational concert explores the communities and musicians that influenced jazz in America

New York, NY (January 12, 2023) – Count Basie and Kansas City. Budd Freeman and Chicago. Sonny Rollins and Harlem. The Casa Loma Orchestra and Detroit. These and other communities and masters of the music significantly impacted the development of jazz in America. At the same time, the communities and scenes inspired the sounds of these iconic bands and artists.

Jazz at Lincoln Center today announces the third iteration of its Journey Through Jazz Series, an interactive and educational concert event, hosted by music director Wynton Marsalis, will honor communities like these, and the musicians who were important contributors to the art form. “Journey Through Jazz Part III,” performed by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, will take place in The Appel Room from February 16-18.

Through music and commentary, Marsalis and members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra guides audiences through a musical journey with wisdom and humor to celebrate the great communities and the ambitious musicians who contributed to and enriched the music.

All performances take place in the Appel Room at Frederick P. Rose Hall, the home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, located at Broadway at 60th Street in New York, New York.
