Jazz Jam: Wynton Marsalis Small Groups

Wynton Marsalis is a man who wears many hats: trumpeter, composer, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, and music director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
But it’s too often forgotten that he first came to fame with small bands: after getting started with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, he then made musical history with his own original groundbreaking quintet. Whether he’s leading bands of any size, Marsalis’ music is always breathtakingly innovative and swinging.

  1. Wynton,
Great concert at Ham Hall (Las Vegas). I play the trombone and was wondering if I could purchase the music from one of your family CD’s. I love the tune performed by Delfayo called sultry serenade. If its available I would like to get the music with changes…is it published in a fake book?…….Please let me know.
On another note I’m trying to garner enough interest to put on a mini jazz fest in Vegas….time and place tbd….(in case you didn’t know…Vegas is one the worst venues for jazz/entertainment in the nation…folks don’t come to hear the music and every local effort for a permanent venue has failed)…..I would be interested in headlining a WM quintet (couldn’t afford the JALC version)…..If you have an interest….I’d like to discuss further…..
    thanks for your time,
