New York, NY (April 1, 2022) – Today, Jazz at Lincoln Center announced its signature gala will return as an in-person celebration on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the organization’s home, Frederick P. Rose Hall, located at Broadway at 60th Street, New York, New York.

The 2022 Gala, “Body + Soul: America Rises Through the Arts,” will integrate musical and dance performances showcasing the role of the arts in creating an American cultural identity. Hosted by Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, and anchored by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, the multi-disciplinary concert event will feature an intergenerational and diverse lineup of musicians, vocalists, and dancers including J’Nai Bridges; Summer Camargo; Elvis Costello; Garth Fagan Dance; Sullivan Fortner; Samara Joy; Julian Lee; Felix Moseholm; Endea Owens; Unity Phelan, Principal Dancer with New York City Ballet; TJ Reddick; and Isaiah J. Thompson.

Performances will feature choreography by George Balanchine; timeless works by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, and others; as well as original music by Songwriters Hall of Fame and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and author Elvis Costello, and emerging talents Endea Owens and Isaiah J. Thompson.

Jazz at Lincoln Center will present the Ed Bradley Award for Leadership to Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, a $16 billion international social justice philanthropy. Under Mr. Walker’s leadership, the Ford Foundation was the first U.S. non-profit to issue a $1 billion designated social bond in U.S. markets for proceeds to stabilize non-profit organizations in the wake of COVID-19. The Ed Bradley Award for Leadership in Jazz will be presented in a special video by Michelle Obama.

Also, on this special evening, the organization will present the Jazz at Lincoln Center Award for Artistic Excellence to Terence Blanchard, Oscar nominee, six-time Grammy-winner and 2018 USA Fellow. The trumpeter, composer, and educator has been a consistent artistic force for making powerful musical statements concerning American tragedies past and present. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Award for Artistic Excellence will be presented by Spike Lee.

Box office hours are Monday- Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (or 30 minutes past curtain) and Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m. (or 30 minutes past curtain).
