Last night, the Wynton Marsalis Quintet performed in Marciac. They played songs from a new poem written by Wynton, and at the end of the concert people tributed a standing ovation to the band and to Jared Grimes. The band also played three encores: Moscow Blues, The Magic Hour and Sadness (by Ornette Coleman).

Yesterday afternoon, at 4:40 PM Wynton was on stage at Parc Floral de Paris with his Quintet, to play at Paris Jazz Festival 2007. They played selections from “The Magic Hour” and from the latest album: “From the Plantation to the Penitentiary”.

Set list for Summer tour 2007
Wynton is in Turkey tonight, for a two days performance at Instanbul Jazz Festival. Then he will go to Rotterdam for the North Sea Jazz Festival. Wynton starts the European Tour 2007 with the JLCO
ynton is in Europe now for his Summer Tour 2007 with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO). Tonight we will play in Vilnius (Lithuania) and tomorrow he will play in Warsaw (Poland) for the JVC Jazz Festival.

‘Congo Square’ a dialogue of eras
When Wynton Marsalis rocketed to stardom in the 1980s, he seemed poised to enjoy a long career as a hyper-virtuoso trumpeter.
Though Marsalis remains a top-flight soloist, it’s his work as composer of epic scores that more deeply defines his art. Clearly, no one else in recent jazz history has produced a comparable list of vast compositions, including the thunderous “All Rise” (performed earlier this year by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra), the incantatory “In This House, On This Morning” (a jazz evocation of a gospel church service) and the incendiary “Blood on the Fields” (the first jazz composition to win the Pulitzer Prize in music, in 1997).
