Live Webcast of 2014 NEA Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony and Concert
The global influence of jazz will be complemented by global access to live jazz music when the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), in partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC), presents a live webcast of the annual NEA Jazz Masters Awards Ceremony and Concert on January 13, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The event takes place in The Allen Room at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City.

Master musicians from Pakistan, the *Sachal Jazz Ensemble* incorporates ancient instruments, such as sitar, sarod, tabla, and dholak into the sounds and rhythms of iconic jazz repertoire. This Ensemble’s unique rendition of the Dave Brubeck standard “Take Five” went viral on YouTube with more than half a million views to date. This collaboration is JALC’s latest installment in a string of cross-cultural investigations, touching upon Ghana and Spain, among others, through which the organization actualizes its mission to make jazz available globally by interweaving the sounds of jazz with an international array of musical styles. -
