  • Wynton’s lips and the August tour dates

    Due to cellulitis of the lip (inflammation of connective tissue), Wynton’s doctor instructed him not to perform for 30 days.
    So Wynton’s manager cancelled the August activities so that he can finally take the time needed to heal properly.

    This program - an encore of the work’s acclaimed Boston premiere at Symphony Hall last December - features the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver, conductor, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Wynton on trumpet, soprano Laquita Mitchell, mezzo-soprano Cynthia Renée Hardy, tenor Brian Robinson, and bass Robert Honeysucker.

    Yesterday Wynton cancelled his performance at the Montreal Jazz Fest because of injury to his lips.

    Friends of Ray Charles sent the late singer off on a high note.
    Wynton Marsalis, B.B. King, Glen Campbell, and Stevie Wonder performed musical tributes to Charles, who died last week at 73, during a joyous funeral service at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church (Los Angeles).
