From 1986 to 1994 the “Chicago Jazz Express” was produced by the Jazz Institute of Chicago (JIC) in tandem with the Chicago Public Schools as an educational outreach program for high school students. It involved concerts in the schools but also follow-up activities such as study guides about the history of the music.
This video consists of segments from the local TV news on the day when Wynton Marsalis was the special guest speaker for a Jazz Express event at one of Chicago’s top schools, the Whitney Young Magnet School.
