    In the opening minutes of ‘Bessie,’ the HBO biopic about blues legend Bessie Smith premiering Saturday, May 16th, the titular character absorbs the warmth of a single spotlight with an air of faint applause surrounding her.   • Wynton at the Concert For Hurricane Katrina Relief on NBC

    In response to the hurricane tragedy NBC Universal Television Group will air A Concert For Hurricane Relief, a live benefit special in high-definition on NBC, MSNBC and CNBC. The hour-long, music and celebrity driven broadcast will air live to the East Coast on Friday, September 2, 2005 at 8:00pm (ET). The telethon hosted by NBC’s Matt Lauer will broadcast from New York studios on NBC. The special will feature performances by artists with ties to the affected areas. These artists include Tim McGraw, Harry Connick, Jr. and Wynton Marsalis as well as a guest appearance by Leonardo DiCaprio, among others. All…   Keep reading »
