  • Listen up, says Marsalis - Master class at the Boston Arts Academy

    As many parents can attest, rousing a child from sleep to make it to the bus stop can be a difficult task. Doing so during a vacation week would seem near impossible. But on Thursday, a group of students from Boston and Cambridge happily rose from bed and made it to class. The reason? Wynton Marsalis was in the house. For an hour and a half the famous trumpeter conducted a master class at the Boston Arts Academy, the city’s only public high school for the visual and performing arts.   Keep reading »

  • Marciac 2008: photos from Master Class and Septet’s concert

    On August 8, the Wynton Marsalis Septet performed for the concert at Marciac Jazz Festival, starting at 11 pm. Wynton, Wes Anderson, Marcus Roberts, Wycliffe Gordon, Reginald Veal and Victor Goines performed wonderfully on that night. The setlist was: Majesty of the Blues, Free to Be, And the Band Played On, Son, Spiritual Awakening, Green Chimneys, Superb Starling, Altar Call, Sunflowers. Encore: The Death of Jazz, Knozz-Moe-King, Happy Feet Blues. On August 7, Wynton also gave a master class for the new kids at Marciac College.   • Wynton to play and record with Marcus Roberts

    On October 6, Wynton will be with his great friend and former pianist Marcus Robert, the J Master, and his trio, for a recording session. Wynton is to perform on 3 numbers.   • Wynton and JALC celebrate New Orleans

    Jazz at Lincoln Center announced a full-scale celebration of New Orleans from the Big Easy to the Big Apple. The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) with Wynton Marsalis will perform free events for people of all ages, including concerts, master classes, clinics, and workshops during a weeklong residency in New Orleans from April 17-23. The residency is in conjunction with the state of Louisiana and in partnership with the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans.   Keep reading »
