Wynton performs Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue
On November 16, 17, 18 at Rose Theater, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, the American Composers Orchestra with special guest conductor Steven Sloane and pianist Marcus Roberts perform Gershwin’s groundbreaking Rhapsody in Blue, and then underscore vocal performances of Nelson Riddle’s finest arrangements from the Gershwin songbook. On November 13, 2006 at 7pm, Jazz at Lincoln Center will celebrate the music of the great American composer George Gershwin at the organization’s fall gala entitled Manhattan Rhapsody: A Celebration of George Gershwin. Hosted by CBS News Correspondent and Jazz at Lincoln Center Board member Ed Bradley, the concert will feature the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, the American Composers Orchestra, Patti Austin, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Michael Feinstein, Angela Lansbury, Marcus Roberts, Brian Stokes Mitchell and other special guests. Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra renamed
The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the house orchestra of Jazz at Lincoln Center, will henceforth be known as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The change will help identify the band, which is led by Wynton, more closely with the organization’s “worldwide brand,”. The group currently includes bassist Carlos Henriquez; drummer Ali Jackson; pianist Dan Nimmer; trumpeters Ryan Kisor, Sean Jones, and Marcus Printup; trombonists Chris Crenshaw, Vincent Gardner, and AndrĂ© Hayward; and reed players Walter Blanding, Victor Goines, Sherman Irby, Ted Nash, and Joe Temperley.
