  • Wynton plays for the Benny Carter Centennial

    From October 15-21, Jazz at Lincoln Center opens the 2007-08 season with the Benny Carter Centennial throughout Frederick P. Rose Hall on Broadway at 60th St. in New York City . Wynton with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will perform the music of this legendary jazz musician on October 19 & 20, 2007. Anchor and Managing Editor of “NBC Nightly News” Brian Williams will host the October 19th concert and former New York Giants running back and “Today Show” correspondent Tiki Barber will host the October 20th concert.     Many of you asked for set list of Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) while they were on tour last September. Following you’ll find the complete songs performed by the orchestra while on tour. You’ll also find a nice addition to the set lists. Last spring, Paul Rogers, who created sketches for Wynton’s book entitled “Jazz ABZ”, was invited to join Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra on the road for a week of concerts.     Yesterday September 8, 2007, Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) were in Baltimore to start their “Jazz Masterpieces Tour” across North America (from September 8 through October 3). Tomorrow they will play in Morgantown (WV). Check the complete tour schedule with more info about venues.   • Wynton in studio to record Portrait in Seven Shades

    Today, Wynton is in a New York City studio with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), to record saxophonist Ted Nash’s musical composition entitled: Portrait in Seven Shades. Portrait in Seven Shades, inspired by works from the permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art, as well as other music from the history of jazz inspired by great works of art including Duke Ellington’s Degas Suite, Coleman Hawkins’ Picasso, Jim McNeely’s Cockiness and Maria Schneiders’ Some Circles.     Wynton and the Jazz art Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) will embark on their Jazz Masterpieces Tour across North America from September 8 through October 3, kicking off concerts and events to celebrate the big band’s 20th anniversary.     Wynton was at the Barbican (London) yesterday night, with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. The concert was reviewed by the Evening Standard, by The Independent, the Times Online, the Guardian Unlimited and the Telegraph.     Wynton is in Turkey tonight, for a two days performance at Instanbul Jazz Festival. Then he will go to Rotterdam for the North Sea Jazz Festival. On the 2007 European Tour, Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra are performing music from one of two repertoires: The Music of Ornette Coleman and Full Steam Ahead. The Music of Ornette Coleman will feature the big band performing selections by one of the most preeminent and controversial innovators of the jazz avant-garde, Ornette Coleman.     Wynton is in Europe now for his Summer Tour 2007 with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO). Tonight we will play in Vilnius (Lithuania) and tomorrow he will play in Warsaw (Poland) for the JVC Jazz Festival. Then they will play in Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Netherlands, Spain, UK and France.   • Wynton is on tour to perform Congo Square

    From today, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton and Odadaa! with Yacub Addy will tour the critically-acclaimed work, Congo Square, written by Wynton and Mr. Addy, to 11 U.S. cities. The 24 musicians will perform the celebrated musical experience that had its premiere in New Orleans last spring. A CD of Congo Square is available on tour only right now, and will be released in the fall.
