    Following you’ll find the set lists for the Congo Square Tour (June 2007) and the Full Steam Ahead Tour (July 2007). The Full Steam Ahead Set List only applies to the Full Steam Ahead Tour, which is only being performed in the North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam), Istanbul, and the U.K. The rest of the venues will have a different program, “The Music of Ornette Coleman”, (set list to be published).   • New tour dates for Wynton and JLCO

    We have just updated our tour section with new dates. Wynton will tour with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra in USA performing Congo Square, and will be also in tour in Europe this summer, with dates in England, Germany, Belgium, Polland, Spain, etc… Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra personnel includes: Music director and trumpet: Wynton Marsalis; trumpets: Ryan Kisor, Sean Jones, Marcus Printup, James Zollar; trombones: Chris Crenshaw, Vincent Gardner, Elliot Mason; reeds: Walter Blanding, Victor Goines, Sherman Irby, Ted Nash, Joe Temperley; piano: Dan Nimmer; bass: Carlos Henriquez; drums: Ali Jackson.     On Jazz at Lincoln Center Radio, the currently featured show is Congo Square. You can listen to the complete show (Real Player required) or listen to some interesting interview about the composition. In the first interview, Amina Addy describes the difficulty of the collaboration. Then Wynton talks about the technical challenges associated with the piece, and describes the structure of the piece.     Wynton Marsalis has composed a number of extended works during his tenure as artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, usually with the stated ambition of capturing some aspect of the African-American experience. On Thursday night at the Rose Theater, he conducted his latest such effort, “Congo Square,” featuring the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and Odadaa!, a nine-piece Ghanaian percussion and vocal troupe.   Keep reading »

  • Congo Square Rising Up

    Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center bring comfort and jazz to the city of New Orleans. It’s been about nine months since Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005. Today, the area is slowly being rebuilt. Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis has led efforts to heal his native city but his journey there this past month was planned well before the unforeseen disaster. Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (LCJO) performed a series of free events for people of all ages, including concerts, master classes, clinics, and workshops during a weeklong residency, April 17-23. The events were co-sponsored by the state of Louisiana and the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans.   Keep reading »

    Yesterday, joined by members of numerous brass bands from throughout the city, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton and the Capital Region-based percussion ensemble Odadaa! marched into historic Congo Square in classic New Orleans parade style Sunday as hundreds of concertgoers danced along behind them.
