  • Wynton back on stage for the Lincoln Center’s spring gala

    Wynton Marsalis played the trumpet on Monday night at the Apollo Theater after a monthlong hiatus caused by a lip inflammation. The occasion was Jazz at Lincoln Center’s fifth annual spring gala, which featured guest performances by Joe Cocker, Tracy Chapman, John Mayer, John Legend and Natalie Merchant.   • Wynton and Itzhak Perlman join lineup for Louisiana Philharmonic Benefit

    Violinist Itzhak Perlman and Wynton will perform at the New York Philharmonic and Louisiana Philharmonic’s joint concert on October 28, 2005. Conductors James Conlon, music director designate of the Los Angeles Opera, and Ted Sperling, music director of Broadway’s The Light in the Piazza, have also joined the lineup for the concert, which will benefit the New Orleans-based LPO as it recovers from the affects of Hurricane Katrina. Those previously scheduled to appear at the concert at Avery Fisher Hall include singer-songwriter Randy Newman and soprano Audra McDonald; retired opera great Beverly Sills will host.   • Wynton playing live at Jazz at Lincoln Center tonight

    Tonight Live From Lincoln Center will put on a special nationwide broadcast of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert. The show will be live from the Rose Theater in Frederick P. Rose Hall.
 The broadcast is a presentation of Thirteen/WNET New York and will be shown on PBS stations from 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET, and continue until 12 midnight on WNET and on other participating stations around the country (check local listings).
 Lincoln Center will make the broadcast feed available to other networks including BET, BET Jazz, VH1 Soul/Classics, and Link TV. Higher Ground…   Keep reading »

  • Update about Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert

    Jazz at Lincoln Center announced the Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert and auction on Saturday, September 17 at 7pm. The benefit will be held at the Rose Theater located inside the Frederick P. Rose Hall on Broadway and 60th Street, New York City.
