  • Black Magic narrated by Wynton to broadcast on March 17

    ESPN will televise its two-part documentary, Black Magic, narrated by Wynton Marsalis and Samuel L. Jackson, on March 16-17. Part 1 will be aired March 16, immediately following ESPN’s NCAA basketball tournament selection show, and Part 2 (narrated by Wynton) on March 17, both at 9 p.m ET, without commercial interruption.

  • Jazz at Lincoln Center announces 2008-09 programming

    Yesterday, March 4, 2008, Wynton with Executive Director Adrian Ellis and Chairman of the Board Lisa Schiff announced the 2008-09 JALC season, featuring over 3,000 events including concerts, education events, broadcasts, worldwide touring (see attached chronology) and new partnership with MasterCard Worldwide. The 2008-09 season marks the organization’s 22nd season of programming and the fifth season in its home, Frederick P. Rose Hall. During the Press Conference, the Wynton Marsalis Quintet also played the song entitled: Razor Rim (one of the tracks of the new album “He and She” to be out soon…).

  • “Playing Our Parts” Concert at JALC with Wynton and JLCO

    On Monday, March 10, 2008, 7:30 p.m., Joe Lovano and John Scofield team up with Jazz at Lincoln Center and Wynton to bring together incredible performers in a benefit concert for beloved bassist Dennis Irwin. All artists are donating their services and Jazz at Lincoln Center is donating its venue and staff to raise much-needed funds for Irwin through The Jazz Foundation of America. JALC invites the jazz community and music fans to come together in support of Dennis Irwin, who is in need of immediate financial support for medical treatment and expenses as he battles a serious illness.

  • Wynton is composing a new orchestral piece

    The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO) and Boston Symphony Orchestra (BSO) have commissioned Wynton to compose a new orchestral piece. At the request of Wynton, ASO Music Director Robert Spano will serve as Wynton’s personal composition mentor, and will lead the ASO in the world premier performance during the NBAF’s 20th Anniversary season.
