    On April 24, 25 & 26, 2008, at Rose Theater, during the “Tap Meets Flamenco” concert, Wynton the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra also performed selections from the Vitoria Suite, which the city of Vitoria (Spain) commissioned Wynton to write. The city of Vitoria-Gasteiz also produced a promotional video and used one song from the Vitoria Suite as background music. Enjoy it…

  • Marsalis returns to Vitoria

    The trumpeter Wynton Marsalis fulfilled his promise and returned last night to the International Festival of Jazz in Vitoria to complete and premier exclusively a work dedicated to the city, his personal tribute to the city was rewarded with a statue commemorating the first ever Pulitzer Prize in Jazz.

    El Festival Internacional de Jazz de Vitoria ofreció ayer una imagen única y, probablemente, irrepetible: Paco de Lucía, a la guitarra, y Wynton Marsalis, a la trompeta, sobre el mismo escenario compartiendo y fusionando su arte ante un pabellón repleto de público. La escena se hizo esperar, pero no defraudó. Antes, Paco de Lucía subió al escenario y, en solitario, con la guitarra y sillas vacías a su alrededor, se reencontró con el público de Vitoria, el mismo con el que hace dos años compartió su recién otorgado Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes.

    This year, the prestigious Vitoria Jazz Festival celebrates its 30th anniversary.
    On Tuesday 11 July, the audience of Mendizorroza Sports Hall will witness a worldwide premiere, a unique meeting between two geniuses that has been eagerly desired for some time. The guitar of Paco de Lucía will host Wynton Marsalis’ trumpet, as a special guest.
    It is an encounter between flamenco and jazz that is certain to offer some magic moments.

    Wynton with his Septet is now in Spain for 4 dates. They will play tomorrow, July 15, at Vitoria for the Festival de jazz de Vitoria-Gasteiz.
    On July 16, they will play at the Auditori in Barcelona.
    On July 17, they will play at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, and on July 18 at Festival Internacional de Jazz in San Javier.
