  • “Wynton Marsalis: A Youngarts Masterclass” nominated for 66Th Annual Emmy® Award

    _Wynton Marsalis: A YoungArts MasterClass_, an HBO Family Documentary Special, has been nominated for a 66th Annual Emmy Award in the Outstanding Children’s Program category. This is the third season the YoungArts MasterClass series has received an Emmy-nomination. The program features some of the work of the “National YoungArts Foundation (YoungArts)”:http://www.youngarts.org, the non-profit that contributes to the cultural vitality of the nation by supporting the artistic development of talented young artists.

  • Wynton Visits Providence St. Mel School

    It’s not every day that someone can say they got musical advice from a jazz great.
    But that’s exactly what Providence St. Mel freshman Jessica Bailey got when Wynton Marsalis visited the West Garfield Park school on Tuesday.
    Marsalis spoke to students during a morning assembly, peppering his speech with colorful anecdotes about life and music. “Practice, practice, practice” is what Bailey, an aspiring soprano singer, gleaned from his hour-long speech.

  • Marciac 2008: photos from Master Class and Septet’s concert

    On August 8, the Wynton Marsalis Septet performed for the concert at Marciac Jazz Festival, starting at 11 pm. Wynton, Wes Anderson, Marcus Roberts, Wycliffe Gordon, Reginald Veal and Victor Goines performed wonderfully on that night. The setlist was: Majesty of the Blues, Free to Be, And the Band Played On, Son, Spiritual Awakening, Green Chimneys, Superb Starling, Altar Call, Sunflowers. Encore: The Death of Jazz, Knozz-Moe-King, Happy Feet Blues. On August 7, Wynton also gave a master class for the new kids at Marciac’s College.

  • Wynton to play and record with Marcus Roberts

    On October 6, Wynton will be with his great friend and former pianist Marcus Robert, the J Master, and his trio, for a recording session. Wynton is to perform on 3 numbers. No major record label set to release. (more info to come…)

    On August 3, 2007, at 4 pm, the first masterclass was for the kids at Marciac’s College, while the second one, today, was for kids that still do not play an instrument at Marciac’s school.
