    Our Marciac 2008 video series continues with two new video clips filmed on August 6-7, 2008. The following video clips will show you the Wynton Marsalis Septet rehearsing two great tunes from Wynton’s albums entitled: “The Marciac Suite” and “The Majesty of The Blues”.
    Septet personnel was: Wynton Marsalis (trumpet); Wycliffe Gordon (trombone); Victor Goines (tenor sax, bass clarinet); Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson (alto sax); Marcus Roberts (piano); Reginald Veal (bass); Herlin Riley (drums).

    On September 5, 2008, The Musicians@Google program welcomed Wynton and Geoffrey Ward to Google’s New York office to discuss their new book “Moving to Higher Ground: How Jazz Can Change Your Life,”.
    The event was moderated by with Google’s own Jim Lecinski. Here you have a video clip of the interview (43 minutes) where Wynton speaks about jazz, taps to explain the rhythm and plays the trumpet to explain the blues.

The first two video-clips we publish today, will take you behind the scenes, during the rehearsals, to appreciate the musicians rehearsing the beautiful music of Thelonious Monk’s “Reflections” and improvising a special version of Happy Birthday for the pianist Marcus Roberts.

    Yesterday, Wynton rehearsed with Richard Galliano. The song they rehearsed are: Comes love, La Foule, Them There Eyes, If You Love Me, Miss Brown To You, What a little Moonlight Can Do, Padam, Billie, A Sailboat in the Moonligth, L’Homme á la Moto, Strange Fruit, La Vie en Rose.

  • Marciac 2008: First rehearsal day with the Quintet

    Today, Wynton and his Quintet (Walter Blanding, Dan Nimmer, Carlos Henriquez, Ali Jackson) rehearsed together for the upcoming concert with Richard Galliano. Wynton wrote some nice arrangements (just wrote…) and tomorrow Mr. Galliano will come with his accordion to rehearse with the Quintet. The song they played today are: Them There Eyes, Comes Love, A Sailboat in the Moonlight, Miss Brown to You, What a Little Moonlight Can Do, Strange Fruit, La Foule, La Vie en Rose, Billie.
