  • Wynton on hurricane Katrina’s anniversary

    Wynton Marsalis will return to New Orleans to produce a television special marking the hurricane’s anniversary. Wynton and his production partner Lisa Marie Hoggs will team with producers John Cossette and Don Mischer to helm “New Orleans: Rebuilding the Soul of America One Year Later,” a live television special taking place at the New Orleans Morial Convention Center. Wynton is expected to announce the venture during a June 6 taping of the Food Network’s “Emeril Live”, where he will also perform with the show’s house band.   • Wynton at The Juilliard School 100th Anniversary Gala tonight

    The Juilliard School will mark its 100th anniversary tonight in a gala performance starring former students including conductor-composer John Williams, soprano Renée Fleming, actor Kevin Kline, Wynton Marsalis, violinist Itzhak Perlman, and pianist Emanuel Ax. The event will be broadcast on the PBS program Live From Lincoln Center starting at 8 p.m. (check local listings). The famed Juilliard alumni will perform alongside the Juilliard String Quartet and a lineup of current students, including 13-year-old pianist Peng Peng, the Juilliard Orchestra, and the Juilliard Dance Ensemble.   • Wynton will play at BET’s telethon for hurricane relief

    BET is the latest network to announce a telethon to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, airing as a two-part, four-hour broadcast on Friday, Sept. 9. From 6 to 7:30 p.m. EDT, the network will present a special edition of “106 & Park: BET’s Top 10 Live,” followed by the telethon, which continues until 10 p.m. Russell Simmons, Chris Rock, Wynton Marsalis and rappers Master P, Juvenile and David Banner are among those scheduled to appear.   Keep reading »

    Yesterday morning, Wynton played a tribute for the victims of hurricane Katrina on CBS’ The Early Show. Here is an excerpt of the interview he gave: 
“It’s too much to describe – not just for me, but for New Orleaners all over the world. I think I’ve gotten over 400-something calls in the last two days,” he says.     In response to the hurricane tragedy NBC Universal Television Group will air A Concert For Hurricane Relief, a live benefit special in high-definition on NBC, MSNBC and CNBC. The hour-long, music and celebrity driven broadcast will air live to the East Coast on Friday, September 2, 2005 at 8:00pm (ET). The telethon hosted by NBC’s Matt Lauer will broadcast from New York studios on NBC. The special will feature performances by artists with ties to the affected areas.
