Yesterday morning, Wynton played a tribute for the victims of hurricane Katrina on CBS’ The Early Show. Here is an excerpt of the interview he gave: “It’s too much to describe – not just for me, but for New Orleaners all over the world. I think I’ve gotten over 400-something calls in the last two days,” he says. The calls come from friends who have been in New Orleans and describe a desperate situation; other calls are from friends around the world offering to help in any way they can. Wynton at the Concert For Hurricane Katrina Relief on NBC
In response to the hurricane tragedy NBC Universal Television Group will air A Concert For Hurricane Relief, a live benefit special in high-definition on NBC, MSNBC and CNBC. The hour-long, music and celebrity driven broadcast will air live to the East Coast on Friday, September 2, 2005 at 8:00pm (ET). The telethon hosted by NBC’s Matt Lauer will broadcast from New York studios on NBC. The special will feature performances by artists with ties to the affected areas. Wynton on BET Jazz in September
On September 4, BET Jazz will present “Amongst the People: Live at the House of Tribes,” a half-hour special featuring insightful interviews with Wynton and footage from the concert, whose Live at the House of Tribes CD comes out tomorrow, August 30. Help get the word out about the opening of “The House of Swing!”
Wynton Marsalis will be interviewed on the Today Show, Monday, October 18. Come show your support and help Wynton and Frederick P. Rose Hall get some national publicity by rallying on the Plaza outside the Today Show window at Rockefeller Plaza in New York. We’ll have signs and lots of laughs. Although Wynton won’t be interviewed until later in the program, the first hour is important for exposure, so please come early (5:30 am!!) and stay as long as you can. The show runs from 7am-10am.
