Marciac 2008: First rehearsal day with the Quintet
Today, Wynton and his Quintet (Walter Blanding, Dan Nimmer, Carlos Henriquez, Ali Jackson) rehearsed together for the upcoming concert with Richard Galliano. Wynton wrote some nice arrangements (just wrote…) and tomorrow Mr. Galliano will come with his accordion to rehearse with the Quintet. Marciac 2008: photos from Master Class and Septet’s concert
On August 8, the Wynton Marsalis Septet performed for the concert at Marciac Jazz Festival, starting at 11 pm. Wynton, Wes Anderson, Marcus Roberts, Wycliffe Gordon, Reginald Veal and Victor Goines performed wonderfully on that night. The setlist was: Majesty of the Blues, Free to Be, And the Band Played On, Son, Spiritual Awakening, Green Chimneys, Superb Starling, Altar Call, Sunflowers. Wynton plays for Marian McPortland 90th birthday
Wednesday, March 19, 2008, Marian McPartland celebrated her 90th birthday in a style befitting the “Grande Dame of Piano Jazz” with a little help from friends including Norah Jones and Wynton Marsalis at Jazz at Lincoln Center. “Getting up here is really a job,” quipped McPartland, who has been slowed by arthritis in her legs and is recovering from a fractured pelvis, after being assisted onstage.
