    Today, Wynton is in a New York City studio with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), to record saxophonist Ted Nash’s musical composition entitled: Portrait in Seven Shades. Portrait in Seven Shades, inspired by works from the permanent collection at The Museum of Modern Art, as well as other music from the history of jazz inspired by great works of art including Duke Ellington’s Degas Suite, Coleman Hawkins’ Picasso, Jim McNeely’s Cockiness and Maria Schneiders’ Some Circles.   • New fall tour dates for Wynton with the JLCO

    Wynton and the Jazz art Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) will embark on their Jazz Masterpieces Tour across North America from September 8 through October 3, kicking off concerts and events to celebrate the big band’s 20th anniversary. Check the new tour dates.     Wynton was at the Barbican (London) yesterday night, with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.     Wynton is in Turkey tonight, for a two days performance at Instanbul Jazz Festival. Then he will go to Rotterdam for the North Sea Jazz Festival. On the 2007 European Tour, Wynton and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra are performing music from one of two repertoires: The Music of Ornette Coleman and Full Steam Ahead. The Music of Ornette Coleman will feature the big band performing selections by one of the most preeminent and controversial innovators of the jazz avant-garde, Ornette Coleman.     Wynton is in Europe now for his Summer Tour 2007 with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO). Tonight we will play in Vilnius (Lithuania) and tomorrow he will play in Warsaw (Poland) for the JVC Jazz Festival. Then they will play in Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Netherlands, Spain, UK and France. The new dates in Spain (Valencia, Madrid, Peñíscola and San Feliu de Guixol) have been confirmed in the latest hours. Please, check the complete tour schedule for more info about venues.   • Wynton is on tour to perform Congo Square

    From today, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton and Odadaa! with Yacub Addy will tour the critically-acclaimed work, Congo Square, written by Wynton and Mr. Addy, to 11 U.S. cities. The 24 musicians will perform the celebrated musical experience that had its premiere in New Orleans last spring. A CD of Congo Square is available on tour only right now, and will be released in the fall.     Following you’ll find the set lists for the Congo Square Tour (June 2007) and the Full Steam Ahead Tour (July 2007). The Full Steam Ahead Set List only applies to the Full Steam Ahead Tour, which is only being performed in the North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam), Istanbul, and the U.K. The rest of the venues will have a different program, “The Music of Ornette Coleman”, (set list to be published).   • Wynton composes a mass for the Abyssinian Baptist Church

    On April 10, 11 & 12, 2008, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will premiere a special mass composed by Wynton Marsalis to commemorate the 200th anniversary of The Abyssinian Baptist Church. Combining jazz and gospel traditions, this liturgy of the Abyssinian service is the first time collaboration for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Rev. Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III and the church choir.     Jazz at Lincoln Center’s nationwide Duke Ellington repertory competition concludes this weekend, as 15 high school jazz orchestras come out swinging. The bands will compete and participate in a festival of workshops, jam sessions and more, during the final Competition & Festival in New York City on May 4 – 6 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
