    Jazz at Lincoln Center’s nationwide Duke Ellington repertory competition concludes this weekend, as 15 high school jazz orchestras come out swinging. The bands will compete and participate in a festival of workshops, jam sessions and more, during the final Competition & Festival in New York City on May 4 – 6 at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center. The top placing bands perform with Wynton Marsalis, as a soloist on May 6 at Avery Fisher Hall followed by an all Ellington concert performed by the 15-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra – all of whom serve as mentors for each of…   Keep reading »

    We have just updated our tour section with new dates.     The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis will premiere saxophonist Ted Nash‘s musical composition Portrait in Seven Shades in a concert entitled Jazz and Art on February 22, 23, 24 at Rose Theater in Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City, depicting the influence of one art form on another.     On November 16, 17, 18 at Rose Theater, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis, the American Composers Orchestra with special guest conductor Steven Sloane and pianist Marcus Roberts perform Gershwin’s groundbreaking Rhapsody in Blue, and then underscore vocal performances of Nelson Riddle’s finest arrangements from the Gershwin songbook.     The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, the house orchestra of Jazz at Lincoln Center, will henceforth be known as the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The change will help identify the band, which is led by Wynton, more closely with the organization’s “worldwide brand,”. The group currently includes bassist Carlos Henriquez; drummer Ali Jackson; pianist Dan Nimmer; trumpeters Ryan Kisor, Sean Jones, and Marcus Printup; trombonists Chris Crenshaw, Vincent Gardner, and AndrĂ© Hayward; and reed players Walter Blanding, Victor Goines, Sherman Irby, Ted Nash, and Joe Temperley.
