    Wynton was executive producer on this film (it’s a documentary by Dawn Logsdon and Lolis Eric Elie) which was shown at the Tribeca Film Festival and one other film festival in San Francisco this spring. Wynton came on board really early and agreed to be Executive Producer (along with Stanley Nelson) as a favor to writer, Lolis Eric Elie. Lolis and director, Dawn Logsdon went to school with Wynton at Franklin High School in New Orleans. Lolis was also a tour manager for Wynton’s band many years ago.   • Black Magic narrated by Wynton to be broadcasted on March 17

    ESPN will televise its two-part documentary, Black Magic, narrated by Wynton Marsalis and Samuel L. Jackson, on March 16-17. Part 1 will be aired March 16, immediately following ESPN’s NCAA basketball tournament selection show, and Part 2 (narrated by Wynton) on March 17, both at 9 p.m ET, without commercial interruption. Directed by Klores and Co-produced by Klores and basketball legend and Winston-Salem State University graduate Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, “Black Magic” tells the story of the injustice which characterized the Civil Rights Movement in America, as told through the lives of basketball players and coaches who attended Historically Black Colleges and Universities …   Keep reading »

  • Wynton reading William Butler Yeats

    Yesterday, December 18, PBS taped Wynton at Rose Hall reading William Butler Yeats’ The Wild Old Wicked Man and Broken Dreams. One of them will begin airing in between regular programming on PBS in April 2008 for National Poetry Month.   • Wynton to record narration for Black Magic

    Black Magic is a two-part, four-hour TV film by director Dan Klores, that highlights the lives of basketball players and coaches who attended historically black colleges and universities before and during the Civil Rights movement. Black Magic will air in two, 2 hour segments, and Wynton will be narrating one of these segments (other narrators include Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Paul ) The narration will consist mostly of one or two sentences at a time to help transition the piece or give further information on the subject being discussed.
