  • Metropolitan Opera commissions new work from Wynton Marsalis and John Guare

    The Metropolitan Opera has commissioned a new opera from Wynton and award-winning playwright John Guare. The project was revealed during an interview Met general manager Peter Gelb gave to Playbill.com yesterday. The venture is in its earliest stages, so no subject or working title has yet been chosen and no anticipated completion date has yet been set, according to a Met spokesperson.   • Brooks Brothers to release exclusive JLCO album

    Brooks Brothers, the famous men’s clothier, has officially released its second CD in a series featuring the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) with Wynton Marsalis.   • Higher Ground benefit CD is in stores now

    Today, Blue Note Records released Higher Ground, a CD that documents Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Higher Ground Hurricane Relief Benefit Concert, a landmark evening of musical offering that was mounted by Wynton on September 17, less than three weeks after Hurricane Katrina imparted its devastation upon the Gulf Coast. The concert, which took place at Rose Theater in Frederick P.   • Wynton plays in Moacir Santos’ new CD

    Moacir Santos, born to a poor family in Pernambuco (northeastern Brazil, ) is regarded as a walking encyclopedia in the realm of Brazilian instrumental music. His new album, entitled Choros and Alegria, counts with the participation of Wynton, who taking opportunity of a concert he would give in São Paulo, insisted in participating of the recording of Choros & Alegria. The song Rota Infinita, a jazz-waltz launched by Moacir in the 70ies, was included here exclusively for Wynton to participate. Mario Adnet made the arrangements for the entire band.     On his second Criss Cross date, Herlin Riley, drummer with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra since 1992, assembles an all-star lineup from different eras of the band.
