I’m unbelievably excited. This will be my first time seeing him as a leader.
One question, though: the event is titled “Marcus Printup comes home for good.” The concert is in Conyers, Georgia, where he’s from, so I was curious… is he really home for good? Anymore JALCO?
Looks like Marcus will be commuting from GA. to NYC, J@LCO, etc. for gigs.
Be sure to report, Nic! Take note:
Gloria is right on, Printup commutes from Georgia for his JALC shows and tours. Enjoy his show, I’d like to hear about it!
He’s also going to be performing at the High Museum on Friday.
The concert he put on tonight at the High Museum was excellent. I took my six year old niece and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. She got an autograph from Marcus and the rest of the band members. The highlight of the night was my niece scatting with Marcus on Duke Ellington’s “C-Jam Blues.” Mon petite etoile was not shy as she matched Marcus note for note in front of the large audience in attendance. This is the first time I’ve heard Marcus play extended solos and he did not disappoint. His renditions of “My Funny Valentine” and Wayne Shorter’s “Footsteps” were two of my favorite performances. If tonight’s performance is any indication, tomorrow’s show should be a good one.
